Werner Enterprises’ third-quarter profit rose to $24.2 million, or 33 cents a share, from $19 million, or 26 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose almost 8% to $463.3 million, the truckload carrier and logistics firm said late Monday.

“Freight trends thus far in October have softened from the third quarter 2010, although we believe the larger shippers in our network may be shifting freight shipment volumes to large carriers in an effort to secure capacity going into 2011,” Werner said in a statement.

Werner Enterprises is ranked No. 13 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
