Weekly Intermodal Traffic Rises 2.7%

Weekly intermodal volume increased by 2.7% to 252,807 units for the week ended Saturday from the same week last year, the Association of American Railroads said.

U.S. rail carload traffic was flat at 288,224 units, AAR said in its weekly report.

Four of the 10 carload commodity groups tracked by AAR posted increases, led by petroleum and petroleum products, which rose 37.2%. Commodities showing a decrease included grain, which fell 23.3%.

For the first 25 weeks of the year, U.S. railroads moved 6 million intermodal containers and trailers, up 3.9% from last year. Carload traffic dipped 1.6% to 6.93 million units.
