Wabash National Posts Higher 1Q Profit

Wabash National Corp. reported a higher first-quarter profit as trailer shipments increased.

The trailer manufacturer earned $5.1 million, or 7 cents a share, up from $3.2 million, or 5 cents, a year ago.

Sales climbed to $278 million, from $222 million, and operating income rose to $5.4 million, from $4 million a year ago.

Total new trailers shipped jumped 16% to 10,300 Lafayette, Ind.-based Wabash said in a statement Monday.



On March 27, Wabash announced its acquisition of Walker Group, a manufacturer of liquid-transportation systems and engineered products, for $360 million.
