Vitran’s 3Q Profit Improves

Vitran Corp. said Tuesday its third-quarter profit improved on gains in its less-than-truckload and supply chain operations.

Net income jumped to $2 million, or 12 cents per share, from $300,000, or 2 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose to $182.9 million, from $165.9 million a year ago, Vitran said Tuesday.

Toronto-based Vitran — which has truckload, LTL and logistics operations in the United States and Canada — posted LTL segment income from operations of $3 million, double that of a year ago. Revenue rose to $150.7 million, from $137.5 million.



The supply chain logistics segment’s operating income rose to $2 million, from $1.7 million, while revenue rose $23.5 million, from $19.8 million.

Truckload operating income slipped to $70,000 from $175,000, while revenue rose slightly to $8.8 million.

Vitran is ranked No. 35 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
