Virginia Program Helps Veterans Get CDLs

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles has streamlined the commercial driver’s license application process for veterans with truck driving experience.

Under the Troops to Trucks program, experienced veteran drivers will only have to pass the written knowledge exam, according to the DMV said.

Veterans will not have to pass the road skills test, eliminating the need to provide a commercial motor vehicle for the test.

For military members without truck driving experience, the DMV is working with military installations to provide training, and has certified the Quantico Marine Base and the Army’s Fort Lee as certified CDL third-party testers.
