Vanguard is the second major national trailer manufacturer to pledge financial support for the recruitment campaign; Wabash National Corp. pledged its support in March. (Click here for previous coverage.)

ATA and the companies did not disclose the amounts of the funding.

The commitment will enable Vanguard to directly assist its motor carrier customers in seeking more qualified truck drivers, the company said.

“As members of ATA, we at Vanguard realize the need for a steady supply of safe and reliable drivers for the motor carrier industry,” said Jordan Owens, Vanguard’s president.

We welcome Vanguard’s support of this critical project,” said ATA President Bill Graves. “The driver shortage is as serious to us as high diesel fuel prices and we need supporters like Vanguard to assure our success in easing this problem.”

ATA said it anticipates the recruitment project to be up and running this summer. It will include a matching funds program for state trucking association driver recruitment ad campaigns, a trucking jobs Web site, and other advertising materials that can be adapted by motor carriers to meet their needs.
