SF Corp. said it plans to re-emerge in the Northeast with a new “service product,” but it offered no timetable for the rollout following its surprise decision in late May to shut down USF Red Star, its unionized less-than-truckload operation that served the region.

Meanwhile, Yellow Transportation hired drivers, supervisors and sales personnel from Red Star since its May 23 demise and obtained some of its freight, too, Yellow President James Welch told Transport Topics June 2.

Yellow is a part of Yellow Roadway Corp., the nation’s largest LTL holding company. As was Red Star, Yellow is a Teamsters carrier.

“We will re-enter the Northeast market in the right way. We will have the right service product for our customers,” James Hyland, a USF Corp. vice president, said in an interview June 1.
