USA Truck said late Wednesday it has entered into a long-term agreement with BNSF Railway Co. to provide transport of private domestic intermodal containers.

USA Truck, which moved its first rail intermodal load in December 2007, saw year-over-year intermodal revenue growth of 69% in 2009 and 50% in the first half of 2010.

The majority of that was derived from trailer-on-flatcar service, and the truckload carrier said the addition of private container service offers it an opportunity to continue its intermodal growth.

USA Truck said the new service for 53-foot private containers will be available to customers immediately.

“We believe these private containers will provide a much-needed additional source of environmentally friendly and cost-efficient capacity to our customers, and an additional avenue for us to further diversify our business model,” Cliff Beckham, USA Truck’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.
