US Says Work Related Fatalities Rise

A preliminary total of 4,679 fatal work injuries were recorded in the United States in 2014, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said in a Sept. 22 report. The figure represents a 2% increase over the revised count of 4,585 fatal work injuries in 2013.

Heavy-duty truck drivers in 2014 accounted for 725 work¬-related fatalities, the highest number since 2008.

Sales workers, truck drivers and other drivers accounted for nearly two of every three fatalities in the transportation and material-¬moving occupations, or 835 of the 1,289 fatal work injuries, also the highest total since 2008.
