U.S. Average Diesel Price Falls Again

The average U.S. diesel price fell again in the latest week, by 3 cents to 151.5 cents per gallon, the U.S. Energy Department reported. That is the fourth consecutive weekly decline and brings the average price of diesel at U.S. fueling stations to its lowest level since Aug. 21.

The decline is welcome news for a trucking industry that has suffered from huge fuel price spikes this year and has seen shipments weaken as well. And the recent decline, in the face of extremely cold temperatures, has surprised some analysts who thought diesel would spike again as winter brought higher demand for a competing fuel, home heating oil.
