UPS Freight Sets 5.9% Rate Increase

UPS Freight, the less-than-truckload unit of UPS Inc. said it was raising its rates an average 5.9%, effective July 16.

The rate increase covers non-contractual shipments in the United States, Canada and Mexico, UPS said in a statement.

Competitor LTL carriers Con-way Freight, YRC Freight, FedEx Freight and Roadrunner Transportation all said in the past month they were raising rates by 6.9% in July.

UPS Inc. is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
