UPS Expanding U.K., German ‘Green’ Fleets

UPS Inc. Monday said it ordered 12 electric vehicles from British manufacturer Modec, which makes zero-emission delivery vans, for use in Germany and the United Kingdom.

Six vehicles will be introduced into UPS’ UK fleet in February, including a vehicle that was used for testing, while the remaining six will operate in Germany, the company said in a statement.

UPS said the no-emissions vehicle is the first of its kind to harness the power of modern, high-energy batteries to meet the medium-range, high-performance requirements of urban delivery vehicles.

The U.K. vehicles will operate out of UPS’ Camden facility, which is in London’s low-emission zone and is the company’s central package facility in the capital.

UPS is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
