UPS Deploys Wearable Scanner System

UPS Inc. said it has deployed a new type of “wearable” scanning system that speeds up loading of packages and delivery of shipping data to customers.

The company said the new device, made by Motorola Solutions, consists of a hands-free imager worn on a finger and a small terminal placed on an employee’s wrist or hip.

The system allows employees to scan image bar codes more quickly compared with the current “point-and-shoot” method, UPS said.
