Universal Truckload’s 1Q Income Improves

Universal Truckload Services’ first-quarter profit rose to $2.1 million, or 13 cents per share, from $100,000, or 1 cent, a year ago.

Operating revenue for the quarter ended April 3 rose 21% to $139 million, the company said.

Truckload revenue rose 25.5%, to $86.2 million, brokerage revenue improved 16.7% to $32.4 million and intermodal revenue rose 10.1% to $20.4 million.

Universal Truckload ranks No. 39 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
