Universal Truckload Services’ 4Q, Full-Year Income Improves

Universal Truckload Services earned $5.3 million or 33 cents a share in the fourth quarter, up from $4.7 million or 29 cents a year earlier.Fourth-quarter revenue rose 11.3% to $163.8 million, though truckload revenue fell 1.6% to $92.5 million, the company said late Wednesday.Brokerage revenue jumped 20.7% to $44.3 million.For the year, Universal earned $21 million or $1.30 per share, up from $17.2 million or $1.12 in 2005. Operating revenue rose 20.8% to $641.6 million, while truckload revenue rose 12.9% to $375.2 million.Universal, a non-asset carrier that operates in the United States and Canada, is ranked No. 44 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
