Union Pacific to Limit Cargo Due to Congestion

Union Pacific Corp., the largest U.S. railroad by sales, said it would turn away cargo and cut the number of trains it operates in an effort to reduce congestion, Bloomberg News reported.

UP’s plan calls for the company to limit some shipments through “key terminals” for all cargo categories, the company said, without providing details, Bloomberg reported.

The company said the moves were needed, Bloomberg reported, to prepare for a peak season starting this month where freight is expected to exceed last year’s record volume.

Union Pacific stopped running three trains in March for UPS Inc. in March.
