After competing in 10 championships over the past 23 years, Lawson says he is focusing on winding up his truck-driving career. He is getting ready to retire and move to Montana in 28 months with his wife, Janie.

At a Aug. 9 press conference before the start of the championships, Lawson recalled his first competition in 1977 as a driver for Giant Food.
