TWIC Program Needs More Testing Before Being Expanded, GAO Says

he Government Accountability Office said further testing of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program is needed before it is expanded.

“An independent contractor’s assessment found deficiencies with TWIC program testing and recommended that additional testing be conducted to determine its effectiveness,” the GAO’s Oct. 20 report said.

The TWIC program is used by the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration to provide a secure credential card with biometric identification for workers — including truckers — at the nation’s ports.
