TSA Still Mum on Deadline For Fingerprint Checks

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>With the deadline for implementing a federal rule closing in, the trucking industry last week still had gotten no official word on whether the Transportation Security Administration would extend its deadline for states to conduct fingerprint background checks of drivers certified to haul hazardous materials.

Earlier this year, that agency set a Nov. 3 deadline for states to begin fingerprinting anyone renewing or applying for a new hazmat CDL endorsement.

Trucking industry groups and other organizations representing state vehicle licensing agencies recently reported that they had been told unofficially that the TSA would grant a lengthy extension to that deadline.
