Trucking Criticizes FDA-Proposed Rules on Food Transport

merican Trucking Associations, the Agricultural Transporters Conference and the Truckload Carriers Association submitted comments last week that criticized proposed regulations for food-transportation security.

In comments to the Food and Drug Administration, all three groups said the government should minimize the burden placed on motor carriers to guarantee the security of food shipments and concentrate more on getting additional information about these shipments from shippers and receivers.

“It should be as minimal as appropriate on the motor carrier and not duplicative,” said Robert Hirsch, president of the Truckload Carriers Association, in an interview with Transport Topics July 8, the deadline for comments to be received.
