ruckers and Canadian National Railway officials said that after weeks of growing disruptions at CN’s Brampton Intermodal Terminal in Toronto they had finally worked out a plan to tackle a large backlog of cargo containers.

CN spokesman Mark Hallman said the railroad’s own drivers and independent truckers had moved a record number of cargo boxes Sept. 14 and 15, to start cutting a backlog that at its height had reached 3,000 import containers — about three times the rail yard’s normal capacity.

“We had a very successful weekend . . . very high levels [of containers] got out of the terminal,” Hallman said.

George Kuhn, president of the Canadian International Freight Forwarding Association that represents shippers, said Sept. 16 it would take about two weeks to get back to normal operations at the terminal.
