Transport Topics Wins National Bronze Azbee Award

Transport Topics won a bronze prize of the national 2016 Azbee Awards of Excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

TT won the national competition’s bronze award for on-site trade show coverage of the 2015 Mid-America Trucking Show.

The announcement was made during ASBPE’s awards banquet in St. Petersburg, Florida, on July 21.

“This award reflects the quality work produced by the entire TT staff,” said Neil Abt, editorial director of Transport Topics. “It required not only the efforts of those on-site at the event, but also the staff back at our office to help bring it to life, while simultaneously still covering the rest of the trucking industry. It also could not have been accomplished without the support of American Trucking Associations and the work of photographer John Sommers II.”

Nearly 20 pages of conference coverage were included in TT’s March 30 and April 6, 2015, editions. The conference occurred over three days at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, taking up more than 1 million square feet. The show was attended by a record 81,000 people. There was also extensive real-time online coverage on the website TTNews.com.

Besides Abt, others named on the award were: Seth Clevenger, technology editor; Eugene Mulero, congressional reporter; Jonathan Reiskin, associate news editor; and Bruce Harmon, then managing editor for magazines and features, who is now retired.

The publication also received a regional award for its coverage of the same subject during June.

ASBPE calls its Awards of Excellence program one of the most competitive there is for business-to-business, trade, association and professional publications. Open to all U.S.-based publications, the awards recognize work by magazines, newsletters, and digital media — websites, e-newsletters, digital magazines and blogs. More than 1,150 entries were received for more than 75 categories.
