Trailer-Tracking Device Leads Police to $6M Cache of Stolen Goods

An electronic vehicle-tracking device proved instrumental in helping law enforcement officials last week recover 16 trailers loaded with stolen cargo in Fontana, Calif., and arrest a man police allege is a major player in truck heists in Southern California.

The San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department said the value of the rigs and their loads is more than $6 million, according to Sgt. Gerrit Tesselaar, who coordinated the investigation involving two multi-agency task forces.

The trailers – at least nine of which have been identified as having been stolen — contained computers, TVs, phones, monitors, tires, mag wheels and furniture.
