January orders for truck trailers rose 28% over the previous year, ACT Research reported.

Seven of the 10 categories that ACT tracks showed year-over-year growth, the group said Feb. 25. The largest increases were an 80% gain in refrigerated trailer orders, a triple-digit increase in tank trailers and double-digit growth in heavy lowbeds.

“The industry is in the midst of its annual ‘order season,’ ” Frank Maly, director of commercial vehicle transportation research at ACT, said in a statement. January’s orders reflected an 8% gain over December, he added.

Trailer building was affected by January’s bad weather, causing a 10% year-over-year decline, ACT said.
