Trade Deficit Narrows in April

The U.S. trade deficit narrowed by 6.2% in April as exports surged to a record, the Commerce Department said Friday.

The trade gap of $58.5 billion was below the $63.5 billion forecast by economists, Bloomberg reported.

The March trade gap was $62.4 billion, down from an originally reported $63.9 billion.

April exports rose to a record $129.5 billion on improved sales of  food, plastics and consumer goods.
