TMC Honors Distinguished Members at Banquet

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Technology & Maintenance Council honored some of its hardest-working members with special recognition awards here this week at TMC’s annual meeting.

Fred Trammel, shop manager for Transport America in Atlanta, was honored with the Excellence in Maintenance Supervision Award, one of several accolades presented at a Feb. 18 luncheon.

The award honors a front-line supervisor for excellent performance in maintenance supervision. Trammel held positions from technician to shop manager at Transport America.

“Fred has displayed an ability to solve problems, think, reason and learn while using the latest technologies to improve maintenance operations and overcome problems encountered within his shop,” said Art Ponds, regional maintenance manager for Transport America.

“Fred is dedicated to ensuring that his shop meets the customer expectation of repairs made and that his shop performance is nothing less than outstanding,” Ponds said.

Gary Yurko, manager for engineering standards at TE Connectivity in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Brian Mandt, engineering manager at Donaldson Co., in Bloomington, Minnesota, received TMC’s Recognized Associates award.

Yurko, a TMC member since 2000, has served on the Meeting Mechanic Committee and been active within the Electrical & Instruments Study Group, serving on several task forces.

Mandt, a TMC member since 2008, serves as the study group secretary and task force chairman for the Engine Study Group. In 2012, he received the Study Group Secretary Award for his contributions to the Future Truck Committee.

Anita Byrne, national sales manager for Mobile InnerSpace, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, received the Study Group Secretary Award.

Byrne, a TMC member since 2009, has contributed to the recommended practice development process and assisted in organizing technical sessions as secretary of the Corrosion Control Action Committee.

“TMC represents the best in technical excellence in the trucking industry and these individuals represent the best in their fields,” said TMC Executive Director Carl Kirk, who also is vice president of maintenance, information technology and logistics for American Trucking Associations.

“We’re pleased to honor them here and recognize them for their contribution to this council and the industry,” Kirk said.

Other service awards went to TMC members who are leaving their posts after being longtime heads of study groups.

One of those recipients was Allen Caldwell, manager of maintenance technology for FirstFleet in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who has headed the On-Board Vehicle Electronics study group since 2009.

He is moving on to the TMC board of directors.
