The Maintenance Council has chosen “Fleet Maintenance Fundamentals,” as the theme for its fall meeting, but it is likely that the organization’s role within American Trucking Associations will also come in for extensive discussion.
However, participants must also wrestle with a requirement — first debated by the group at its annual meeting in March (3-22, p. 12) — that makes company membership within ATA a prerequisite for employee participation in TMC. The requirement is a part of the trucking association’s strategic plan, adopted in August 1998.

About 700 people are expected to attend the meeting from Oct. 11 to 14 in Tampa, Fla., where they will cover a broad spectrum of maintenance-related issues and participate in sessions aimed at developing recommended practices for trucking.
Although the deadline to accept the fuller integration is more than a year off, it continues to stir concerns among the maintenance directors and engineers who make up TMC.
