ll but one of the nation’s four major railroads have provided detailed plans as requested by the U.S. Surface Transportation Board on how they intend to meet the peak freight-shipping season now setting in, STB Chairman Roger Nober told Transport Topics.

Once the letters are in, the STB said July 27, it would post them on its own Web site.

Nober, in an interview, said that the four — Union Pacific Corp. and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Co. in the western United States and CSX Corp. and Norfolk Southern Corp. in the east — do not have much excess capacity to meet additional demand.

UP has posted its letter to the board on its own Web site. Officials from NS and BNSF confirmed they had sent letters to the board, but would not divulge their contents.
