.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R) said she opposes the construction of a toll road connecting South Texas to San Antonio as part of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s (R) proposed Trans Texas Corridor, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday.

In an address to the Texas Association of Counties, Hutchison said she has concerns about the property acquisitions that would be required to build such a road, the Chronicle said.

Rural Texans, whose farms and ranches could be disrupted by the development of the new transportation network, have also voiced concerns about the corridor, according to the Chronicle.

The proposed Trans Texas Corridor seeks to ease congestion on such crowded roads as Interstate 35 by building a series of new highways and integrating them into a network with existing roads.
