Qualcomm Says FleetAdvisor Can Help Manage Hours of Service

Qualcomm Inc. said Oct. 27 the latest version of its FleetAdvisor system provides fleets with tools aimed at managing new hours of service regulations expected to take effect Jan. 4.

FleetAdvisor is a transportation management system that supports on-board computing, vehicle tracking and real-time wireless communications.

The wireless communication company said fleets can manage driver logs electronically, track state mileage for fuel tax reporting and provide alerts for late arrivals or departures.



"The new rules are one of the most significant regulatory changes affecting the industry and FleetAdvisor provides an excellent opportunity for carriers to implement the changes and go paperless by the new Department of Transportation implementation date," said Glynn Spangenberg, vice president of Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions. Menlo Wins Contract From Integrated Device Technology

Menlo Worldwide Forwarding said Oct. 27 it was awarded a multi-million dollar international contract by Integrated Device Technology Inc.

IDT is a manufacturer of semiconductor devices. The deal includes air freight service and the implementation of security standards throughout shipping lanes including Hong Kong, San Francisco and Shanghai.

Menlo is an operating unit of CNF Inc., ranked No. 4 on the 2003 Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies. Transport Topics


Sirius Narrows 3Q Loss; Revenues Surge

Sirius said Wednesday that its net loss for the third quarter was $106.7 million or 11 cents per share, compared with $119.7 million or $1.56 per share a year earlier.

The satellite radio company said it had 149,612 subscribers at the end of September, which represents a gain of 44,426 for the July-September period.

Sirius said total revenue for the third quarter was $4.3 million, compared with $17,000 a year earlier. Transport Topics
