Con-way: Online Services Now in Mexico
Less-than-truckload carrier Con-way Freight said it upgraded its Web site to provide shippers in Mexico with electronic versions of pickup requests.Con-way Freight, a subsidiary of Con-way Inc., said Mexican shippers can now use the Con-way Mexico Web site, available in English and Spanish, to request pickup from any of the company’s six logistics centers in Mexico.
Con-way Inc. is ranked No. 6 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada. Transport Topics
TMC Accepting Scholarship Applications
The Technology & Maintenance Council said it is accepting applications for a diesel truck technician scholarship to WyoTech, a technical college with campuses in Laramie, Wyo., and Blairsville, Penn.To be considered, candidates must have a sponsor who is a current dues-paying member of TMC — a technical council of American Trucking Associations — or is employed/contracted by a company with at least one current dues-paying member.
Applicants must be graduating from an accredited vocational school or high school and the application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the candidate’s sponsor, TMC said. Transport Topics
ATRI Selects Teams to Test Idle Technology
The American Transportation Research Institute said May 22 that it has selected three project teams to evaluate mobile idle reduction technologies on heavy-duty trucks.ATRI said the three teams will be led by Diversified Transfer and Storage, National Freight and Schneider National.
The use of these technologies will allow truck drivers to rest comfortably while the truck’s engine is turned off, the group said. The year-long data collection effort will document engine idle times with and without the use of the idle reduction technologies. Transport Topics
