DHL Unveils Software Suite for Shippers

Package delivery firm DHL Americas said it developed a new software package for small- and medium-sized shippers.

The software, known as EasyShip Professional, allows users to see a variety of shipping costs and transit times, depending on the scenario selected, DHL said.

Shippers can install the software without an Internet connection and the offline system will allow customers to quickly retrieve address and client information, DHL said.

In addition, shippers can configure the software to send automatic e-mail notifications to customers once a package is shipped and track packages in real time, the company said.

DHL Americas ranks No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers. Transport Topics

International, Enova Working on Medium-Duty Hybrids

Hybrid power provider Enova Systems said it is evaluating hybrid drive systems for International Truck and Engine Corp.

Enova said it delivered a Hybrid Drive 4200 series Truck to International in November 2005 and a hybrid school bus in January. Both are currently being evaluated by International at its Fort Wayne, Ind., technical center.

The 4200 series trucks’ performance has yielded an average fuel consumption savings of more than 31% and an miles-per-gallon increase in excess of 48%, Enova said.

International, the largest U.S. medium-duty truck maker manufacturer, currently supports about 40% of the medium-duty trucks and 60% of the school buses build in North America, Enova said. Transport Topics
