Nebraska to Use Webcams to Show Road Conditions

The Nebraska Department of Roads is testing different types of cameras at various points along the state’s main highway, Interstate 80, as part of a plan to show conditions on the road over the Internet, the Associated Press reported.

Currently, NDOR is testing five types of cameras at 20 locations across the state and transmitting those pictures to its Web site, AP said. Once a single camera is chosen, he agency plans on installing a network of 100 cameras across the state.

A spokesman for the department said the cameras were going to be used to monitor traffic trouble spots and to help in dispatching emergency vehicles to accident sites, and not to catch speeders or other traffic violators, AP reported.

I-80 is a major route across the United States, starting in New York and ending in San Francisco, it passes through the middle tier of the country. Transport Topics
