Teamsters Oppose Allied’s Motion to Void Contract

Auto hauler Allied Holdings filed a motion Friday asking that an Atlanta bankruptcy court void the contract between the Teamsters union and Allied and allow the company to implement the wage, benefits and work-rule concessions it has been seeking, the Teamsters said.The Teamsters said the union will oppose that motion, and said the union has been holding talks with Allied over the past few weeks to develop a “fair and equitable plan” to help Allied emerge from bankruptcy.Allied is asking for a total reduction of $65 million per year for five years for a total of $325 million from Teamsters employees and to implement changes into a new, five-year contract that would not expire until March 31, 2012, the union said.(Click here for previous coverage.)
