Task Force to Study Red-Light Cameras in N.M.

Mayor Martin Chavez has appointed a task force to study how effectively Albuquerque’s red-light cameras are reducing the number of traffic crashes, the Associated Press reported.

The cameras photograph motorists who run red lights or speed through 20 intersections. Chavez said the most recent data show some reduction in traffic crashes, AP said.

He said the nine-member task force will collect data at intersections, gather public opinion and examine fines and how revenue could be better spent, AP reported.

The task for report is due in January.
