Software Vendors Mixed on Impact of HOS Decision

ompanies that sell fleet-management software to trucking fleets had mixed reactions to news that a court had struck down the new driver-work-hours rule, as some said it would have little impact on their systems and others said it could mean changing various service programs for customers.

Some also said that the new uncertainty the industry faces as a result of the decision was the biggest problem for them and customers.

Most information-technology firms contacted last week by Transport Topics said that altering the software programs they use that measure driver hours was part of customer contracts, and as such would not cost the fleets more money. Some suppliers said they would incur costs to make those changes, however.



Ernie Betancourt, chief executive officer of BetaZone Inc., parent of Innovative Computing Corp., said the industry was “in a state of shock” over the ruling.
