Smithway Reports 15% Increase in Second Quarter

Smithway ranks No. 94 on the 2006 Transport Topics 100 list of the largest for hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
mithway Motor Xpress Corp., Fort Dodge, Iowa, said net earnings for the second quarter rose to $1.6 million, up 15% from $1.4 million in 2005.
Earnings per share increased to 31 cents, compared to 27 cents a share for the same quarter in 2005.
Operating revenue, excluding fuel surcharge, rose 4% to $50.7 million from 48.7 million in the previous year’s second quarter.
