PHILADELPHIA — SmartTruck, a supplier of aerodynamic systems, unveiled its LeadEdge Top Fairing, a component designed to manage airflow in the gap between the cab and trailer or between two twin trailers.

The new trailer fairing, which is fitted to the top of the trailer’s front wall, “creates lift to reduce drag,” CEO Stephen Ingham said during an Oct. 17 press conference here at American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition.

The LeadEdge improves fuel economy by 2%, either as a stand-alone product or when used in combination with other SmartTruck aerodynamic components, he said.

SmartTruck’s suggested retail price for the new top fairing is $429, which equates to a payback period of eight to 10 months, Ingham said.
