Senator Lobbies for Delay of Ergonomics Hearing

A Senate critic of the proposed ergonomics standards contends more analysis and response time is needed by state and local governments, railroads and the U.S. Postal Service.

Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) wants a July 7 hearing by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration postponed to allow representatives from each group more time to develop individual cost analyses.

That session is the last one in a series the agency has held across the country to obtain public comment on its proposal. The hearings began in March in Washington, D.C.

On June 1, the senator wrote to OSHA Administrator Charles Jeffress, saying he was “shocked” and “disappointed” that the agency had not addressed these sectors at the beginning of its ergonomics rulemaking.
