Sen. Reed to be Ranking Dem on Senate Transportation Funding Committee in 114th Congress

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Reed with a different status on the committee. A corrected version appears below.

Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) will be the next ranking member of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, the top Democrat on the full committee, Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), announced Jan. 9.

Reed will succeed Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) in the 114th Congress, which convened earlier this week. Murray has been named the ranking Democrat of the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, And Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.

Reed, the four-term senator from the Ocean State, will be tasked with approving funding for truck and freight programs for fiscal 2016.

The transportation subcommittee, commonly referred to as T-HUD, is assigned with directing funds for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the rest of the agencies at the Department of Transportation.
