Security Agency Plans Truck Rules by September

Official Assures Industry It Will Have a Chance to Comment on Proposals

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>BALTIMORE — The Transportation Security Administration will issue security guidelines by Sept. 30, 2003, for screening motor carrier cargo and protecting against the threat of terrorism, a TSA official said last week.

It was the first time TSA stated a specific target date for issuing truck security rules, according to TSA spokesman Dave Stiegman.

"We want to have at least prototypical rules in place by the end of the [government’s] 2003 fiscal year," Mark Johnson, TSA’s deputy associate under secretary for maritime and land security, said.
