Second Suit Against UPS Alleges Insurance Offense

Two United Parcel Service customers are suing the package delivery giant, claiming that they were charged too much to insure their packages.

Francis Farina and Steven Mersky, both of Devon, Pa., filed suit Feb. 2 at U.S. District Court in Philadelphia, according to Reuters. They allege that UPS is a monopoly that engaged in unlawful trade practices by inflating insurance charges.

The suit is the second filed against UPS for allegations of insurance improprieties since a tax court ruling that could cost the company nearly $2 billion.

UPS spokesman Norman Black said the company “believes the lawsuit is totally unfounded. We intend to use every resource at our disposal to fight it.”
