The connection between Schneider, one of the nation’s largest truckload and logistics service providers, and venture capital fund 8VC is deepening with the appointment of Shaleen Devgun, chief information officer and executive vice president at Schneider, as an adviser to the San Francisco-based investment firm.

The two companies recently joined forces to invest in Platform Science, a firm that is developing technology to track vehicles and other transportation assets as part of a strategy to create a digital supply chain.

“At 8VC, we work with founders and entrepreneurs who are on a mission to transform global industries,” said Jake Medwell, a co-founder and partner at 8VC. “Shaleen is that person in logistics.”

As an adviser, Devgun will provide guidance to other logistics companies in the 8VC portfolio, which includes Platform Science, project44, FreightWaves, Joby Aviation, Boom and LoadDocs, Medwell said in a statement May 31.

Devgun, who joined Schneider in 2009, previously worked as a management consultant specializing in corporate venturing, formation and execution of business and technology strategies. He has been CIO at Schneider since July 2015.

Schneider ranks No. 6 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America. It ranks No. 18 on TT’s Top 50 list of the largest logistics companies in North America.
