Used Class 8 truck sales continued to be mixed in November, ACT Research said.

Same-dealer sales volumes gained 4% year over year to 2,004 units and 1% year to date relative to the same period in 2014, ACT said.

Unit sales shrank 23% month over month, according to ACT.

“Average mileage of used Class 8 trucks was essentially unchanged month over month in November and also recorded a second consecutive 7% year-over-year  decline,” ACT analyst Steve Tam said in a release.

The average mileage was 482,176 for Class 8 trucks sold in November, and it was 495,929 year to date, Tam told Transport Topics.

“We expect the year-to-date mileage numbers, now 8% lower than 2014, to remain low as new truck buyers have shortened their trade cycles,” Tam said. “The average age of Class 8 used trucks sold in November saw a 1% increase to 91 months, while the average price of these vehicles fell 1% month over month during the same period.”

In October, ACT reported the average price of an over-the-road Class 8 truck rose to $46,594.

The report from ACT provides data on the average selling price, miles and age based on a sample of industry data.
