Saia Reduces Workforce by 5%

Saia Inc. has reduced its workforce by 5% because of a decline in shipping demand, Bloomberg reported.

The less-than-truckload carrier cut the jobs in its field operations and at its corporate office, the company said in a regulatory filing.

“This action was taken as the industry is experiencing lower-than-normal seasonal volume and an uncertain economic environment,” the filing said, Bloomberg reported.

Saia said in February it employed about 8,200 people, and the reduction would lower that by about 400, Bloomberg said.

Saia is ranked No. 25 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
