Less-than-truckload carrier Saia Inc. said Tuesday it acquired Robart Transportation Inc. and subsidiary RL Services Group LLC, for about $7.8 million.

Known as the Robart Companies, the Duluth, Ga.-based transportation firm has provided customers with truckload brokerage and third-party logistics services since 1981.

“This acquisition supports our strategic goal of diversifying our portfolio of service offerings,” Saia CEO Richard O’Dell said.

Sharon Burton, CEO of the non-asset based Robart, will continue to lead its operations, O’Dell said in a statement.

Saia said it will rebrand the Robart Companies under the Saia name in the fourth quarter of this year.

Saia is ranked No. 23 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
