Con-way Exec Named to FMCSA Safety Committee

Robert Petrancosta, an executive with less-than-truckload carrier Con-way Freight, has been named to serve on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee, the company said Monday.

Petrancosta will represent the trucking industry on the approximately 20-member panel, which is tasked with advising FMCSA’s administrator on policy, rule development and other regulatory issues.

The committee is made up of members of the motor carrier industry, safety advocates and safety and law enforcement officials. “We are proud that Con-way will be represented on this committee,” said David McClimon, president of Con-way Freight, which is a unit of Con-way Inc., ranked No. 6 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers. Ford Recalls Medium-Duty Trucks

Ford Motor Co. said it was recalling 37,400 medium-duty pickups after dealers reported flames coming out of the trucks’ tailpipes.

Ford spokesman Dan Jarvis said the recall covers 2008-model F-Series Super Duty trucks with 6.4-liter Power Stroke engines built by International Truck and Engine Corp., the Associated Press reported.

About 8,400 of the trucks have been sold, he said. International spokesman Roy Wiley told Transport Topics the trucks have a Ford aftertreatment system — which Ford installs after it receives the engines and which may be the cause of the fires. Transport Topics
