Road-Builders Group Hosts Trucks in Work-Zone Webinar Nov. 16

Improving the design of work zones to enhance the safety of construction crews and the drivers of large trucks will be the topic of discussion in a webinar on Nov. 16 the national group representing road builders will host.

The freight industry is a major player in the construction sector, and work zones along highways and at infrastructure sites often result in a heavy flow of trucks that haul large equipment. Federal transportation agencies and industry stakeholders engage in promotional campaigns aimed at raising awareness about work-zone safety.

“Work zones can create special challenges for drivers of large vehicles, such as commercial motor vehicles. They often encounter narrower lanes, a reduced number of lanes and traffic moving out of its normal patterns,” Brad Sant, senior vice president of safety at the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, said in a statement to Transport Topics.

“This creates hazards for commercial drivers, other motorists and workers. This webinar is intended to help everyone understand the increased hazards faced by large vehicles and provide ideas for improving safety for everyone driving through a work zone,” he added.
