Retail sales increased 0.2% in July, the fourth consecutive monthly gain, the Commerce Department reported.

The upturn followed a 0.6% rise in June that was larger than the 0.4% originally reported.

Economists had forecast a 0.3% increase for July, Bloomberg News reported.

Nine of 13 major categories showed gains, led by clothing and general merchandise stores.

Almost all trucking operations depend on the health of retail sales because such sales involve nearly every type of cargo.
