Retail Diesel Average Spikes 4.3 Cents to $2.485 a Gallon

he national average retail price of diesel fuel rose 4.3 cents to $2.485 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported Monday.

Meanwhile, the average price of gasoline jumped 8.9 cents to $2.327 a gallon, DOE reported.

The diesel increase was the highest since a record 34.6-cent leap on Oct. 3, to a then-record $3.144 a gallon.



Diesel topped out on Oct. 24 at a record $3.157 before tumbling in the weeks following to a low of $2.425 on Dec. 5.

Since then, trucking’s main fuel has risen in three of the five weeks, including Monday’s latest jump.
